The Sublime Soirée Bag
Small and perfectly formed, our Soirée Bag is a Fall 17 favorite. Discover the intricate design process of this seasonless bag, released in new, seasonal compelling color iterations.
Using a combination of hand-drawn expertise and innovative technology, the Soirée Bag is created from a digital three-dimensional prototype, made by scanning a hand-drawn sketch. The digital file is then worked on to trial a wealth of finishes, embellishments, colors, and appliqués, including studs, fringes, and contrast leather whip-stitching on crossbody straps.
To build the leather base of the bags, sheets of nappa leather are traced and cut by hand. The chosen exterior fabric for each bag—ranging from plush pink velvet and shiny silver sequins, to timeless black leather adorned with gold-tone studs—is then traced and cut before being bonded to the nappa leather base. Black edging paint is applied to the raw edges of the leather—a high-end finishing technique that requires more labor, but results in slimmer, flatter edges and an overall cleaner and more refined finish.
To create the bicolor straps, two strips of leather in contrasting colors are bonded together in order to avoid visible stitch lines. The strap is then machine-buffed to prepare it for edge painting, which is administered to the strap using a specialty machine for a polished finish. For the final touch, a machine-made chain strap is clipped onto the bag.
The Soirée Bag; perfectly proportioned and pretty, too.
